|Wednesday 4th Sep 8 miles||Circum-ambulate of Box, Along riverbank through woodland and hamlets in hidden combes. Satnav SN13 8NN|
Leader: Ken (01278 793453/07770721954) Meet: 10:30 Selwyn car park Box GR: ST 823 686 Free. Route: M5 to Jnc15 join M4 to London. Exit jnc.18 turn right (A46) towards Bath. Stay on A46 to join A4 towards Box. At Box traffic lights the road splits (A4 left)(A365 right). Take the A4 and turn left after the Bengol Bear down Valens Terrace. (Church Lane is just before it). The large car park is right down the bottom past the Library. Grade: Moderate with a couple of ascents. An interesting walk with everything. Picnic. From WsM 48miles (1 hour). Satisfying, splendid, sometimes seemingly strenuous but simultaneously, saliently salubrious with sensuous scenery. A stunning show-stopper!

Leader: Pat M-H (01278 792419 / 07902 210705). Meet: 10:30am Marksbury Village Hall CP, with permission, 50p donation per person please. GR: ST 666 624. Route: Churchill then A368/A39 towards Bath. In Marksbury, after Church Farm Close (on left) turn left on bend into Winsbury View (road not signed) and follow as bears right to CP on left. Grade: Moderate/Easy, no stiles, taking in parkland, castle and lakes in Newton Park. No dogs please. Picnic

Leaders: Dennis & Gisèle (07985 318 275/ 01934 424 339) Start 11:00 a.m. Meet near where River Banwell flows into the estuary. Grid ref.: ST 347 662. Route: From Worle toward Ebdon and turn left before the Crematorium into Lyefield Road, then right into Collum Lane continue toward the end and just before the Priory turn right into a broad track. Car park at the end. Picnic. Grade: Moderate with a couple of steady climbs. Note start time.

Leaders: Sylvia W (07770 266546) & Sally (07951 066242). Meet: 10:30am Stonebarrow Hill CP, Charmouth. GR: SY 383 933. Route: M5 to Jct 25 Taunton. At r/about take 1st exit onto A358 signed Honiton/Weymouth. After 8.7 miles take 4th exit at Southfields R/about staying on the A358 to Chard. Follow the A358 through Chard making for Axminster. On approaching Axminster turn left onto Stoney Lane (B3261), left onto Lyme Road (B3261) to the A35. Turn left towards Dorchester. After 3.5 miles at the r/about take 2nd exit staying on A35. Continue approx 1 mile and take right turning to Charmouth. Pass Newlands Holiday Park on your left and take next turning left into Stonebarrow Lane. Continue up the hill to the car park (free for NT members, £4 non members. Shop/toilet.) Grade: moderate to hard. Exhilarating with outstanding scenery. Picnic.

In main village street just past community shop turn down right opposite signs for Village hall/Playing field and car park. Route: Across Mendip to A39, turn left for Farrington Gurney, at lights right turn onto A362 (signposted Frome), continue on to Radstock then left onto A367 (signed Bath) to Wellow. Allow approx 1 hour from Weston. Grade: Moderate, a circle of ups and downs thro undulating ' horsey country' with changing views. Could be muddy in places. Picnic. No dogs please.

Leader Ken (01278 793453/07770721954) Meet 10.30 am Cadbury Castle car park GR: 632 252. Route: Make your way to Shepton Mallet, and onto Castle Cary (A371). Take the A359 (signed Yeovil) and follow signs into South Cadbury. The car park is on the left hand side just past the Camelot Inn. Grade: Moderate but with three climbs. Spectacular views. Picnic. 40 miles from W-s-M. Please let me know if you are coming.

Leader: Allan R (07833 921334) Meet: 10.30am Wedmore CP, GR:ST 437 481 Route: A370/A38 towards Brent Knoll. After petrol station turn left SP Mark. At T junction turn left and continue to Wedmore. At bottom of hill in town turn left SP Cheddar. CP on right in about 300 yds. Grade: Hills, lanes, woods and fields. Moderate, picnic.

Leaders: Dennis & Gisèle (07985 318 275/ 01934 424 339) Start 11:00 a.m. Meet at reserve car park to the east of Charterhouse. Grid ref.: ST 504 557. Route B3134 through Burrington Combe to the summit beyond; turn right for Charterhouse. Continue south to the cross roads and turn left down lane to car park at the end. Picnic. Grade: Undulating with superb views. Note Start Time

Leader: Allan R (078 339 21 334) Meet: 10.30am Castle Neroche CP Gridref: ST 272 156 Route: M5 J25, A358 east. After 4.4 miles, at top of hill, turn right signed Staple Fitzpaine. At crossroad in Staple Fitzpaine turn left signed Chard. At T junction turn left then second left to CP (first left is easy to miss). Grade: Forest, fields & lanes with short steep section at end- moderate. Picnic.

Leader: John H (01934 633139 / 07799 307171). Meet: 10:30am St Peters Rd GR: ST 611 438 Route: Shortest route from Weston take A371 towards Shepton Mallet. On the hill into Shepton pass Bowlish Infant School on your right, within 150yds turn right (Hospital sign) by imposing Bowlish House Hotel, follow this (St Peters) road uphill and park where the road is straight. Grade: Moderate with one steep climb from Dinder up to the East Mendip Way. Picnic

Leader: Allan R (07833 921334). Meet: 10:30am East Harptree Woods CP, Gridref: ST 558 541 Route: Usual route to Churchill then A368. After 2 miles turn right onto B3134 up Burrington Combe. After 6 miles turn left towards East Harptree and CP in woods on LHS at top of hill. Grade: Forest, fields & lanes. Some hills (not a lot) some mud (not a lot), moderate. Picnic.

GR: ST 500 591 Route: A368 from Churchill crossroads to Blagdon, turn left into Station Road and turn in to the car park by the Fire Station. Grade: Easy with a steep climb at the end back up to Blagdon, woods, fields and lanes, good views. Picnic

Leader: Phillip C (07890724323/01934708840) Meet: 10.30am Car park of the Rodney Stoke Inn. GR: ST 484 502 Route: Out of WSM through Banwell heading through Winscombe. Come out of Winscombe to A38 and turn R onto A38. Then L onto A371, towards Cheddar. Continue on A371 for 5.9 miles, into Rodney Stoke. The Rodney Stoke Inn is on the right. Grade: Moderate. One Steepish climb. Lots of stiles! Afternoon tea: There are no parking charges. The Rodney Inn is booked for us to have a drink and light refreshments after the walk.
