Walks Calendar - OCTOBER - NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2021.

PLEASE BE AWARE.  Satnav is given as a guide only and cannot be relied upon to take you to the meeting point, especially in a rural location.  The OS grid ref GR:  will  get you to within a 100 metre square.  Route directions in the programme should also get you to the meeting point.

Start: 10:30am Cothelstone Hill Car Park. GR: ST 200 328.
Route:  M5 Jcn 23 then A38 left to Bridgwater. Turn right into Wylds Rd, over traffic lights , right at next traffic lights, thro’ 3 more sets of t/lights and thro’ Durleigh. Turn left onto Enmore Rd for apprx 5 miles, at Pynes Café keep straight on, CP on left in under half a mile.
Moderate (but it’s The Quantocks ),  final climb up through Paradise to the car park. Picnic.

Sugar Loaf Mountain Nr Abergavenny.    Satnav NP7 7LA. approx             /// sample.beak.bake
Leaders: Sylvia W (07770 266546), John (07799307171). Start: 10.00 am National Trust Car Park GR: SO 270 165. 
Route: M5 north, M49 and M4, exit Jcn 24 to A449 then A40 thro Abergavenny past Neville Hall Hospital to cross roads (0.4m) turn right , first left, left again, bend right uphill, cross cattle grid, after sharp bend fork right then right again uphill to CP. 
Grade: Strenuous top class walk. Picnic. Refreshments after at The Vinyard. 
Please inform a leader if coming by Friday 29th October.

Hinton Blewett - Litton.             Satnav: BS39 5AN                           ///ranges.signs.pencil
Leader: Ken (01278793453/07770721954) Start: 10.30am in car park opposite Ring of Bells. GR: 595 569.
Route: A368 to Bishops Sutton and turn right at Red Lion to Hinton Blewett. (You can turn right in West Harptree (B3114), turn left at Coley, then follow a network of signposted lanes to Hinton Blewett but this is complicated).
Grade: Moderate with one noticeable hill. Picnic

Leader: Jackie Morris (01278 785249) Start: 10:00am Apex Park, Burnham-on-sea. GR: ST 310 480
Route: From M5 Jcn 22 take A38 signed Highbridge after 1.3 miles turn onto B3139 signed Burnham-on-sea after 0.6 miles turn left at mini roundabout (signed Apex Park). Entrance on left (200yds).  Grade: Moderate / Easy. Picnic.

Leaders: Sylvia W (07770 266546), Kay (07432 552228) Start: 10.00 am Burrington Village Square. GR: ST 479 593. Route: Weston, thru’ Banwell, to Churchill traffic lights. Continue on A368. Ignoring the right turn to Burrington Combe (B3134), take the next right turn into Fry’s Lane.
Grade: Moderate, lovely views. Picnic.

ABBOTS LEIGH - ABBOTS POOL  -  ASHTON PARK            Satnav: BS83QT      /// rescue.items.puff
Leader: Gordon ( 520547 )   Start: 10:30am,  Green next to Abbotts Leigh Church.   GR: 545 739.
Route:  EITHER M5 to Jn 19, then A 369 towards Bristol. At George Inn in Abbots Leigh turn left (Church Lane) and follow to green, OR A370 to  A396 near Ashton Gate and at George Inn in Abbotts Leigh turn right and follow to green. 
Grade: Easy. Coffee stop with an optional picnic at the end of walk.

Leader: John H. Tel: (01934 633139/07799307171) Start: 10:30 am Frog Lane CP.   GR: 660 471.
Route: Follow A368 thro’ Churchill, turn right (Burrington Combe) onto B3134, turn left onto B3135 to T jcn with A37, turn right then next left A367 (signed Bath) as you enter Oakhill turn right, after 1.5 miles turn left just before 30mph sign. CP on right (200yds). 
Grade: Moderate, muddy in places, slippery if wet. Picnic.
(there is an unavoidable footpath diversion which has a short vertiginous section).

Winscombe – Callow Drove – Wavering Down – Crook Peak.      Satnav : BS25 1HD   ///shipwreck.tilt.changes

Colin & Barbara Tel: Mobile: 07899 062 868. Start: 10.30 am @ Car park behind the Woodborough Inn GR: 421 576 (allow time to visit the public toilets by the railway bridge, or top your lunch at the Village Bakery if you want to.
Grade :  Moderate, with two climbs. Good views.  Picnic

Bleadon Hill, Hutton Woods, Shiplate.                      Satnav: BS24 0AD      /// forum.recur.debt
Leader: Christine W. (01934 425319/07791 129944 ). Start: 10:00am Bleadon Hill  Car Park (GR: 358 578). 
Route: A370 south.  Straight on at hospital roundabout, uphill. First left over railway bridge for approx half a mile and then left on Roman Road for approx one mile. Car Park is on the left. Grade: Easy to moderate walk with one climb. Lovely views from the hill down across the levels.

Regil – Chilly Hill – Pagan’s Hill           Satnav: BS40 8AY        ///firelight.knee.purses
Leader: Allan C. Tel:(07958 360584). Start: 10:30 am Crown Inn CP, Crown Hill, Regil.  GR: 539 637
Route: From Churchill follow A38 towards Bristol, turn right into New Rd (signed Winford), this becomes Kingdown Rd to Winford Manor. Bare right here into Redding Pit Lane, after 0.7 mile turn sharp left into Crown Hill. CP on left opposite Crown Inn.
Grade: Moderate, fields, tracks and quiet lanes. Picnic.
 This is Allan’s first walk as leader, please support him.

Barbara (07934 197780) Start: 10.30am at Ladye Bay CP.   GR: 407 726.
Route: Pass Clevedon Pier on your left and continue to Walton St Mary. Turn left opposite Walton St Mary church, CP is on the left.
Grade: Moderate but with several climbs. Picnic

Leader: Gordon ( 01934 520547)    Start: 11.30 am Chew Valley Lake CP(£2.20)  GR: 572 614.  
Route: A 368 through Blagdon and first left on B3114 after Compton Martin.  Right in Chew Stoke (signed to Lake) and find car park on right after 1 mile.
Grade: Easy, with two short ascents.  Kissing and Bristol gates only!  Picnic.

Sidcot - Shipham - Rowberrow - Star - Wintehead.      Satnav: BS251LX.  ///racetrack.stunner.roving.  
Leader: Colin& Barbara (07899 062 868) Start: 10.30am The Barn, Oakridge Lane GR: ST 429 573 {parking is available). Or park behind the Woodborough Inn GR: 421 576  and walk up through Hillyfields (20 minutes)
Usual route to Winscombe, through village to A38, cross A38 at traffic lights and go up Fountain Lane, turn R. at top into Oakridge Lane. The Barn is 200yards on your right.  Parking may be limited so please lift share if possible.     
Grade: gentle stroll around Winscombe and Shipham. No Picnic, but back to The Barn for hot soup afterwards. Please inform leaders’ by Tuesday 7th if you are planning to come.

Towerhouse Wood - Cadbury Camp Lane - Clapton in Gordano.   Satnav: BS48 1JP   ///lions.repay.riots
Leader: Barbara (07934 197780) Start: 10.30am Nailsea/Wraxall lay-by. GR 486 715
Route: A370 to Backwell crossroads, left into Station Road. Follow the road to the end then turn right towards Wraxall. Soon after the Wraxall sign look for the lay-by on your left, there is also a lay-by on the opposite side of the road.
Grade: Moderate with hills. Picnic.
